QSAC (also known as ANZ Stadium or QEII) is now known as home of LanSmash. This awesome venue let's us host 180+ player LAN's in air conditioned comfort.
This will be LanSmash's first event at this venue so let's make it one to remember!
With the retooled LanSmash website we're now able to track signup's to our events. If you want to guarantee your seat to the SantaSmash LAN then sign your seat up at http://lansmash.com/event/santasmash-2008 .
Signing up and registering to a LAN for the first time can be a scary prospect. That's why LanSmash is giving you the chance to win a brand new copy of this years hot RTS game, Red Alert 3 for the PC. All you need to do to be in the running for this game is to sign-up to SantaSmash 2008 and show up on the day!
This hot new game will be given out to a random registered gamer at midday on the day.
If you already have a copy of Red Alert 3 then don't despair, we've also got a copy of C&C The Last Decade pack to give away!
Prize: Netgear SC101 storage central
Best Christmas themed PC with a Maximum of 50 Christmas Lights. So go nuts, and keep it to the 50 lights pleeeaaasse. I think we all remember the year Qaz created the 1000 christmas light extravaganza that brought down the venues power.
Prize: Golden Orb II
Best Christmas Outfit and this year we want a gaming twist to the get up. So add some Christmas flair to your favorite game Character.
Rock Paper Scissors
Prize: Mystery prize!
We'll have an all in RPS Comp, over the years rock has shown sensational form at previous LS RPS Tourney and I'm sure we'll have a solid showing once again.
SantaSmash has always been about fun, so with that in mind these tournaments are designed for fun gameplay through-out the day.
Prize: Command & Conquer The First Decade
Welcome back Commander. In a series of 1v1 rounds find out if you've got the right stuff to win yourself a copy of 10 years worth of Command & Conquer. If you're interested in participating in this game make sure you're at the LAN by 2pm for sign-up's.
Prize: Thrustmaster USB controller and a copy of Serious Sam II
It's been brought to my attention that there are infected citizens everywhere, and they need to be eradicated. So doing our bit at LS we want to see the person with the highest individual kills in a single campaign so grab us when you finish a campaign to confirm your kill count and be in the running to win.
Prize:ThermalTake Flare Board
QLD Smash will be duking it out to see who has the best smashing skills. Tournaments for both Brawl and Melee are planned (Singles and Doubles), and will see some of QLD's best players duke it out in a fun, competitive atmosphere. Players of all skill levels are welcome, just remember to bring your own controller.
LS has four Xbox 360's setup with Gears of War 2 on play!
Emphasis is on fun and fast gameplay. We'll be taking gamer names down at midday who want to play. If we have enough gamers for 3v3 or 4v4 we'll roll with that, otherwise it'll be a Free for All.
If you want to bring your own Xbox 360 console you're more then welcomed to.
Left4Dead, Red Alert 3, FarCry2, Call of Duty 5 and others are out and ready to play. With so many exciting new games out there are so many fun times ahead.
Make sure you reload your shotguns for the horde of zombies coming your way.

I'll be in sydney, have fun without me!
Momo or whoever is running it... Will there be a super smash bros brawl comp... If not there should be. If there is bs| will be there :)
I hate you for having this on the weekend i'm going home to see family :P
In regards to the Super Smash Bro's comp - we'd love to have one. This LAN is all about casual gaming fun, but our early Feb LAN will have a competitive focus.
I'm looking for some GameMaster's to run the SSBM comps for LanSmash, if anyone's interested please contact me!
I'm in for long haul!! Will be there all day this time AND bring my pc. Its been a long time since I've been able to say that.
Hi I'm Vyse.
Blade scouted me to run the Super Smash Bros. Brawl/Melee comp if he'll still have me.
It'll be a good way to introduce the competitive Smash scene to the other competitive gaming scenes in Queensland.
The last time we ran one was in 2006 and it's about time we got back into the swing of things with you guys.
Hopefully you'll all join in too!
Just remember to bring your own controller.
EDIT:
For more information, please read on here:

I might make another thread for it on the forums here too if the webmaster/s so desire.
I've only just learned of LanSmash (via Smashboards - I'll be coming for Super Smash Bros.), so I'm not sure what games tend to be played. So: will there be DotA?
hey i'm pretty interested in going with a few pals however i'm wondering whether you will asign us all seats?
I'd like to sit with all my mates there and am wondering if that is possible?
Heya Cletus,
We don't have a seat reservation system in place yet, but you'll find most gamers have mates they want to sit with at the LAN. I'm sure there will be room for your friends to sit near you, but if you want to reserve some seats surrounding each other shoot me an e-mail and I'll make sure there are seats together for you.
Santa smash 08
is there going to be a Cod:WaW Tourny??
Also will there be a console area and if so do we need to bring our own lol :P
Heya Rewiind,
I'll get in touch with the CoD5 tourny organisers to get further details.
Yes we'll be having consoles at the LAN! The QLD Smash group are running a Super Smash Brothers tournament with Wii's. And we'll also have a Gears of War 2 LAN with Xbox 360's.
We should have four Xbox360's to play, but gamers can bring in their own. More details of the Xbox360 section will be out this coming Monday (1st dec).
What!?!? MC VS DJ one on one RA3 sounds like a plan to me :)
Hey Guys...
Good to see a Lan still kicking about.. Appears most of the big names have vanished over the years...
would be good to get a Cod WAW Touney Going... Also Farcry 2 / Red Alert 3 :D
See you on Saturday.
Yes chingers and myself will be up from the coast to own you all at CoD:WaW !
Seeya's on Saturday :D
hehehe DJ vs MC at RA3 will be a very quick game me thinks.
Has Nevac begun a RA3 account yet?
He has been playing, I spoke to him the other day, said he quite likes it, I think WoW is still his queen though.
omgggg awsummm brawl comp! Ima start roundin up the lads then! Im assuming there will be prizes n such like last time?
Signing up for the Smash tourney.
Such a good turnout, sad I'll be missing it.
I doubt there'll be much in the way of large prizes guys, this is meant to be the fun lan where we just all game and have fun in the holiday season, not yell at each other over comps.
There's still yelling, right?
A yelling comp? St@cky you should enter!
What would -=LS=- be without yelling, quick heads up on Santa Smash and the way it will work this year.
Santa Smash has always been about fun and prizes, the prizes traditionally are not large but generally random and there's usually lots of them. None of this will change.
We are hoping this week to announce a list of some of the comps, expect a Christmas PC decorating and dress up comp of some sort at the very least possibly a traditional Rock Paper Scissors.
However... as a twist, next year we have some amazing things planned and Santa smash will be a test bed for some of them, this allows us to test things in the funnest possible environment. So for stuff like the Smash comp expect there to be a random prize, but know that we are setting the stage for something much bigger in the new year.
So while we'll have our announced comps there will plenty to win and do on the day, console madness, RPS, PC Gaming and course plenty madness to go around.
Look forward to seeing you all there.
I don't think you could call it a LAN without the yelling. Crucial part of the day imo :P
we do need frangers yelling thou . . . . . :(
I'm sad I'm missing it but $50 flights to go home was too good to miss
It is a shame, Blade and I were running down on some of the details today and it's looking great, It's the first time at this venue, so we got a bunch of stuff to do to ensure we run a a great event. A few additional announcements reminding you of the annual Santa Smash Comps;
Christmas PC Mod Comp: Best Christmas themed PC with a Maximum of 50 Christmas Lights. So go nuts, and keep it to the 50 lights pleeeaaasse. I think we all remember the year Qaz created the 1000 christmas light extravaganza that brought down the venues power.
Christmas Costume Comp: Best Christmas Outfit and this year we want a gaming twist to the get up. So add some Christmas flair to your favorite game Character.
Rock Paper Scissors: We'll have an all in RPS Comp, over the years rock has shown sensational form at previous LS RPS Tourney and I'm sure we'll have a solid showing once again.
Left for Dead: It's been brought to my attention that there are infected citizens everywhere, and they need to be eradicated. So doing our bit at LS we want to see the person with the highest individual kills in a single campaign so grab us when you finish a campaign to confirm your kill count and be in the running to win.
It's late and that's a pretty decent update for 1am.
*Waits for incoming posts of rock rock rock rock rock rock rock rock*

sorry double post not the best way to start out aye
yeah like the nvida chick in grean and red.
ok now this is gona be my very very first lan treat me nicely this is my lan cherry im giving you.
anything special i have to do with these titles for this lan
call of duty all iterations going back to the vcod days right up to world at war
css
bf2 and 2142
cysis both of em
moh airborne
and brothers in arms hells highway
can i get what titles and others are gona be supported or is it just bring all and see what others are up for.
The main games we really play are TF2 and Left 4 Dead.
Removed comments pertaining to Piracy, piracy is not supported on the -=LS=- Forums.
For this Lan the big focus in on fun, whilst we certainly don't dictate what games are played, Plastic is correct we generally spend a bit of time on TF2 and Left for Dead will certainly get some airtime.
I'll let Blade comment on the COD4 stuff, I think he was organising something.
Other titles are War3:DotA, Red Alert 3, BaboViolent.
However at our Summer LAN in early Feb, we'll be hosting the CSS State Qualifiers for the AINC Cup. And I'm sure there will be plenty of COD4 as well. We also fired up FarCry last LAN too but were met with some multiplayer buggyness that meant it wasn't so great.
Look forward to seeing you at the LAN!
BABO BABO BABO
and yes...im still having nightmares because of that game.... "MOOOOOOOOOSeeeeeeeeeeeee....."
MK vs DC anyone keen? I bring the game if theres going to be Ps3 to bash it on?
Ya I should be bringing my PS3 with the x-arcade sticks. I haven't played MK vs DC but I'm keen on laying the smack down on those DC pansies! :P
66 confirmes so far * WOOT! *
...any idea on expected numbers?
saw it mentioned that the ANZ stadium venue can hold up to 180+ gamers...
thats just insane.....but SO ORSoM!!!
Hey, well this is my first lan here in oz as ive only been here for 10 months, so not to sure what to expect but by the sounds of it, this is going to be the best lan through out the year!
1 question tho? whats the biggest lan and where is it, i mean back in NZ we had xlan which is once a year with over 1000 people 72 hour lan. is there one here like that?
Cheers
Our plan was to have a 'low-key' event for SantaSmash so we can iron out any bugs we run into. :P
That said, it's shaping up to be one fun event. I'm guestimating around 100 gamers will rock up during the day. Which is impressive considering we don't have any major comps as draw cards.
The next event in early Feb 2009 should have around 150 gamers per day.
thats cool.. have you ever thought of expanding like having a bigger lan? or something like Clan wars, talking bout clans! i havent seen many around as i am looking at joining one.
The sad fact is getting those numbers in Australia I simply don't think is possible (at this stage anyway), with how easy and accessible online gaming is these days LANs are really only for the very social gamers or for large scale comps, unfortuantely the comp scene in Aus is not that big at this stage but its getting there.
oh no worries. well at least i have found one which is great. im not sure if anyone has asked this question before but im thinking of bringing my partner to the lan as she has never seen one before! she doesnt have to pay as its $15 per gamer ay?
Spectators certainly are free. We actively encourage them.
Noooo!!! I had forgotten that Franger can't come....now how are Nat and I going to get to the LAN?!??!?!??!!????
PS. We live in Alderley. Lifts offers are most welcome!!
