Sunday Specific Information
Comp day where the each competitor matches their steely eyed skills against the soft marshmallow like skin of their opponents.
While Sunday is when the TF2 and L4D comps are based, by no means is that all that happens on this day. We welcome all people again on this day and there's plenty of the other games to go around. Thee will be heaps of casual TF2 and L4D of course, but it's been a pretty rare occurrence over the last 9 years not to see a smattering of games being played on any given day. A revival of UT 2004 is scheduled for Sunday at the very least.
For those roaming TF2 and L4D players though we encourage you to rock on down, as many a team has formed on the day of the LAN to join in the gibing goodness that these games provide.
So remember to sign up, turn up and SMASH IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone's so keen to signup they didn't read all the details :P
It's no problem, good to see you so keen!
This will be my first Lan smash event, I look forward to it :)
Games I like : )COD 5 and 4, TF 2, Left4Dead, CCS..........
Some thing tells me you're a candidate for both days. Don't forget to register for both in that case.
In the first post you say Sunday is the casual day, not saturday. Double yuuuuu teee errrrf?
The key to Sunday is the TF2 and L4D comps which are becoming increasingly popular, the first TF2 comp we ran had 6 teams of 3, the second 9 teams of three. The left 4 dead has been similar, first we had 4 teams and last LAN I believe we had 6 at least and the venue was booked to capacity, I mean we were turning people away. Hence they are taking good portions of our time as admins, which we certainly don't mind.
However of late it's been noted that there's been plenty of good games we might have overlooked in our TF2 and L4D zealotness. So Saturday which is a bit of a quieter day will cater more for those. Any game that gains enough interest on the Saturday will be moved to the Sunday at future events and made a formal admin run comp.
As mentioned though, either day all the peeps can feel free to play what they like. We just love gaming. It's not like either of those comps have ever stopped a DotA game nothing can stop DotA.
However of late it's been noted that there's been plenty of good games we might have overlooked in our TF2 and L4D zealotness.
Why would you lie like that?
You know games like that don't exist.
Everyone knows the only games that exist at the moment are TF2 and L4D.
UT2004 is also very much a great game and that will get a run on Sunday. I'd say last man standing.
Smashball will also make an appearance, and we'll see how that runs.
As far as a cross section of gaming goes this LAN will provide a massive amount of it, across both days. Plus we have a good amount of room.
Once again I recommend everyone to register for the days they will be attending, this way I can better lay out the LAN. Keep in mind while our new rego system is awesomer than previous, you still need to register for both days individually that you intend to attend.
It's not like either of those comps have ever stopped a DotA game nothing can stop DotA.
Yeah, not even the fact it sucks.
Tank Battle/Wars can stop DotA unfortunately.
As can the DotA haters that I battled against last LAN. Your manipulative ways shall not work on me this LAN!
Smash Bros. Melee will be exciting for all again. :)
And I will bring my N64 (s) (with good controllers too!) for anyone who is up for some casual games.
2 vs 2 NBA Hangtime anyone?
Or just good ol Goldeneye!
You know I really want to play Smash Bros with you guys but i've always been a terrible player and it would be a bit pointless.
No way franger, you should give it go. Even I beat Vyse once... he's over seas already right... and won't be able to dispute this until it's fallen off the front page, forgotten about and google cached for all time.
Still here till the July 2nd.
I'll just tell him aboot what you said lol.
Dammit, okay so I haven't beaten Vyse, but I could... if he got distracted for 15mins or so.
Lol. But seriously though, give it a shot Franger, Brawl is easier than you think, and it's always fun.
Yeah, Brawl is super easy to play.
But just play either game in friendlies, we should have enough setups for this to be possible.
Just a shout out that Marvel vs Capcom 2 will ALSO be running on Sunday, fingers crossed the HD version comes out on time.
Lol. But seriously though, give it a shot Franger, Brawl is easier than you think, and it's always fun.
I think you're underestimating how shit I am, seriously I fall off the edge of the map without anyone even hitting me.
I will be attending Sunday only and Won't be playing CS/TF2/DOTA/Console comps
But I am eager to play Steam HL2 DM , that new steam soccer mod , Red Alert 3 , World in Conflict , Flatout 2 , ET Quake Wars , R6 Ravensheild , R6 Vegas 2 , UT99 , UT2004 , COH , Delta Force extreme 2, Nexuiz , Open Arena , World Of Padman.
Is it okay to bring two PC's ? One file server with only 4500 gig shared and
Gaming box with LCD ?

It happens, I know :p
Rah, I trust you'll come and have fun with us anyway.
You just need to get used the game I guess.
I'd be perfectly happy to play with items n stuff too for some friendlies.
Really, its SUCH a good casual game.
In other news, Snowboard Kids on the N64 will be EPIC!
With PC version of SF4 now out I am expecting 200 entrants. And I'm sure we can talk JB into allowing anyone who wants to keyboard-warrior it to enter for free.
SF4 pre-purchase has a 10% discount, interesting...
Are the console and PC versions multiplayer-compatible? I'm not sure how the match-making works.
Just checking as I thought in TF2 the console and PC versions weren't compatible, though I could be wrong.
I'm gonna laugh when some kid shows up with his Keyboard to play SF4.
Are we gonna have PC version there anyway? I guess we could hook some sticks up to it for more tables.

Released on steam on July 8th, so yeah, it'll likely be there (I might pick up a copy myself...) I'd assume Blade will be picking up a copy too. :D
WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JB we need a man date to finish those sticks... STAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know what you mean by man date but i hope its not what it sounds like.
It's okay cara can't see the forums at work as long as I remove it before 5pm, she'll never know.
Lansmash is home of the bromance

You can also get this game off Impulse, if you want to support the competition:
http://impulsedriven.com/stfighter4
I'm tempted to buy off Impulse (to support the competition, and having all my games in one basket/account worries me), but the chat functionality in Steam is so much better (at least, I think Impulse are only adding friend lists and chat now).
It's 7pm...
Dammit ><
Hi All
Competition time is coming up real quick and i am so pumped for some awsome battles. I do however want to voice my disappointment with the inclusion of Seth and Goken, you cant play them on the arcade, and Japan have banned them so i dont see why we should have there inclusion. Anyway best of luck to you all and i will see you on the battle field.
I've never seen either used, certainly not in competition, not that they are banned just that I've never seen them used.
The only good Gouken/Seth that will be here is Slapper Joe. And he doesn't play him.
No reason to ban them anyway.
Which reminds me, Akuma is banned in HDR for the inescapable demon setups. I'd post this in the other (appropriate) thread except it's dirty.
Pick and choose from below the reasoning on why the console cast is allowed
* This isn't an arcade tournament so console chars are allowed. There was no chance to get the one decent arcade cabinet in Brisbane to LanSmash. Hell I couldn't even get a T6BR machine.
* This is in prep for OHN, which is a console tournament where all chars are allowed.
* We are following EVO like rules since challenging/beating the US on the world stage is much more likely and viable than Japan, and hence should be our first goal.
* There are a large chunk of people who only have experience with the console version in Australia (esp. Brisbane.) Unlike Japan where the tournaments are still run on arcade machines.
* All the console chars are average at best, and most of them are crud. Running all chars alienates arcade players less than running arcade only chars for console players.
I'd say console chars have been picked less than 10 times on the vs screen over the last two tournaments.
Though I really would like to know beforehand if certain chars are not unlocked on machines so I can at least attempt to plan the tourney around it. Esp. when I'm the one playing and I want to counter-pick vs Zangief..............
They are all good reasons and i can understand your point of view, this is a console tournament etc. But there implementation in the US comps is only new and is still being trialed so i will be interested to see just how it goes. Are we going to see a tournament full of Seths and Gokens, since they are ridicules? I hope not cause that would ruin the game.
Just like everything else, just cause the US are doing it doesn't mean that we should. And the Japaneese are king and everyone knows that the king makes the rules.
I agree our first goal should be to train up and reach a level where we can compete against the US. Theirs would be much the same against Japan, but if Japan will not bring them in whats the point. The US champ may be a Seth or Goken user and then will get owned in Japan cause he cant use that character, does that really make him the best.
On a brighter note we could sit here and discuss the pro's and con's all day but i dont know about you guys but i am all about some healthy competition so bring your A game. Good luck
I hope you do realise the difference in metagame comparing the US and the Japanese.
I'd call them two different games. The playstyle is just that different.
Japanese are king of their own realm, same with the US. The only difference is that the Japanese push the term "Playing to win" to a whole new level, where the US playstyle is closer to the one that Australia and the rest of the world have adapted to.
My two cents.
Thats a fair call. But at the end of the day it is the same game. And no one can argue with winning.
Oh, I'm not arguing their way of play, I think it's pretty amazing.
I was just pointing out the differences between Japan and the rest of the world.
Is it a good time to point out that the japanese also sell used womens underwear out of vending machines?
Is it a good time to point out that the japanese also sell used womens underwear out of vending machines?
Always. But it really should have been phrased this way to keep on topic:
The Korean Nationals also allowed console chars so Japan is unique in this front, but what else would you expect out of a country that sells womans' underwear out of vending machines?
Is it a good time to point out that we are notoriously bad at keeping threads on topic around here?
In defense of the Japanese though, you can buy a 5L mini-keg of beer in a vending machine and that kind of convenience demands at little respect.

ahhh,, closed as in full? or rego not open yet (please, please, lol)
