In hard times like this, gamers need cheap games. Â I'm not sure how these cdwow guys do it, but they have some insanely cheap PC games.
For instance - Fallout 3 DVD - $49.95 Australian, DELIVERED!Â
Red Alert 3 DVD $51.95 Aud, delivered!
Sure, you'll wait a week or so for it to arrive, but that's still a hell of a lot cheaper then anywhere else I know; including Steam.

if its not open source or available via bittorrent .. its not the cheapest game :P
ÂÂ
If it's not an elitist comment about open source, it's not made by Andy :p
Sweet.
You know everytime someone makes a comment about pirating games it makes me die a little that people refuse to support those who provide them with entertainment.
yeah you know i dont really play games. and when i did, i paid top $ for them..
if i played games half as much as most of you then i would feel really bad pirating games.
glad that nobody jumped on the double entendre and called open source games cheap
I don't mind playing for games, i just think its unfair that we have to pay 50 - 100 % mark ups for almost all games and consolesÂÂ
Well right now I don't mind paying the near 100% percent mark up, over the US prices, as our dollar is fairy poorly against the american dollar. I do however get frustrated when international sales outlets, increase the price of digitally delivered content for Australian purchasers simply because the "old" method of store bought games can't compete, using old methodology.
/rant over.
ÂÂ
Franger are these cdNOW games pirated???
Yea but when the dollar is almost 1-1 we don't see a decrease only increase when our dollar is under performingÂÂ

that goes for everything pretty much
But not everything has a 100 % mark up compare to everywhere else
true
I see cdwow accepts paypal. Paypal will allow you to report the item as not recieved if you recieve a counterfit product.

Especially now the AU Dollar has tanked and the special increased AU pricing remains.
ÂÂ
for the first time . im looking at prices of things here in hong kong (consumer electronics) and realising that the price in australia is much cheaper
ÂÂ
no doubt due to the price point being set by north american companies when the dolar ws ~88cents

My comments were in relation to Andy talking about bittorrent.
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3
$53.95 Free Delivery
I just bought it. It's a parallel import, so you're getting an Asian version which is why it's cheaper. It's not pirated you're just bypassing the Australian chanels with their markups.
I'm sick of companies thinking they can charge more just because it's Australia. Red Alert 3 comes with securrom bullshit, but I want to play co-op which is online only, so I avoided the 'unprotected' version.
Securom gives them power, I can see a future where your CN version won't connect online with your AU IP. Steam already does this to an extent from memory.
Also did we post anything about EA tying, EA forum accounts to your game accounts and CD-Keys, meaning a forum ban will prevent you from every playing your games again, even offline? I think I saw it on Kotaku.

"The Australian Government has adopted the view that parallel importation should be encouraged as a means of increasing competition. This procompetition policy is reflected in provisions in Australian trade mark and copyright laws that allow parallel imports."
If they do block my registration, I'll be arguing till I can't anymore because it's legal in Australia to parallel import. The law gets a bit fuzzy with importing for commercial purposes, but it is legal to import for yourself. It hadn't even occured to me to consider the DRM crap as regioned.
That forums rumour is bullshit, unless that's in the EULA (it very well could be) I don't see how they can claim you've violated the agreement to use the software.
Edit: The LS admins are probably going to get approached by the EA overlords requesting my IP because I'm a trouble maker. I'll make it easy, 58.174.131.17.
You face two arguement problems,
1. You bought the product overseas, good luck getting the cash back.
2. You might be able to import it, but thanks to the securerom check as you install, and run, you may not be able to connect to their servers, play online, or even fire up the game. The company is question is in the USA, good luck getting anywhere.
Steam blocked the thai version of the orange box being played in other regions, and pretty much said tough luck to those who bought internationally for cheaper. Linky <!-- m -->http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/49656<!-- m -->.
As an aside by all reports this won't be a problem, but it's a troubling trend.

Last I heard the admin dude who wrote that post on the EA forums made a mistake, a forum ban is not meant to mean you can't play their games (that was what I gleaned from slashdot awhile back). He posted an apology after.
The fact that EA can prevent you from playing your own single-player games is a bit scary though.
