Obama won a race election, while the media should be taken with a grain of salt, all I heard from random street clips, was people saying they looked forward to a black president. how obama getting in would help the healing, help bridge the divide. It's funny how people forget racism works both ways.
However, it might not be a bad thing people have hope things will be better and hope shouldn't be under estimated. The real key is what obama does with his time in office. He's certainly an inspirational speaker, and America has lacked that leadership quality for some time.
Time will tell maybe he'll be shot, like the four others before him, maybe the US will enter a mighty depression and a new super power will emerge, maybe the race wars will reignite, maybe the world can live in peace for a while, maybe the persistent view of white America will be eroded and a new world perception will occur. maybe... maybe...

Difference between McCain and Obama: When America goes to shit (which is going to happen; now is nowhere near the bottom) I don't think Obama would pin all their woes on a foreign boogeyman, i.e. Iran.

Certainly is the worlds worst job at the moment, if Obama actually succeeds in pulling the USA out of the crapper it would truely amaze me.
McCain's concession speech was unfortunatley the highlight of his campaign. (It was actually far better than Obama's acceptance speech.)
Realistically, as much as people say 'race', it wasn't the black vote Obama had to get. The democrats always have most of that anyway. It was the rich white guy vote they had to get, and did manage to get. I'm not really impressed with Obama yet. As far as I can see he only has the virtue of being 'not Bush'. That said, unlike in Australia they have no oposition government in America, so they don't really have the resources to pump out policies until after the president is elected. Hopefully Obama surrounds himself with intelligent people, because in reality listening to people who do know what the hell they're doing is probably the biggest part of the job.

Unless of course you lose. The USA did well after WWII because it sold a heap of stuff to its allies, which then had to pay it back after it ended. Any wars since haven't helped the economy any. It's a good distraction though, people don't seem to care as much about not being able to afford house repayments when their house could be blown up at any moment.
