WinterSmash - Left4Dead Tournament

The following information is for the Left4Dead Tournament to be held at SummerSmash 2009 (QSAC, Brisbane, QLD) on Sunday 12th of July 2009

Tournament mode: Double Elimination

Map Round Layout
Round 1: Blood Harvest levels 3-4
Round 2: No Mercy levels 3-4
Round 3: Dead Air levels 3-4
Round 4: No Mercy levels 4-5
Times
Teams have to be ready and willing to play starting at no later then 14:00 (2PM). Expect to play on until 18:00-19:00 (6-7PM).
Rules
Team start: Infected and Survivor teams will be decided by a coin toss at the beginning of the round.

Also how come no Death Toll? is it because of the difficulty leap?
Looks like we're going to run the CEVO tournament config pack. This should address the complaints about the tank sometimes not spawning, missing health packs, etc.
If on the day the tournament admin decides the config pack is not working as expected, he can, at his discretion, revert the game server config to an unmodded default state.

Gameplay config differences
-----------------------------------------
- This is similar to other competitive configs, with the main differences being:
* We try to disable all non-saferoom medkits, turn them into pills instead
* Team swap order is ABABA, instead of highest score goes survivor first
- The full list of changes between this and vanilla gameplay:
* Tanks guaranteed 100% to spawn on every level 1-5
* Witches spawn 0% on 1,5 and 75% (default) on 2,3,4
* Tanks will not suicide if they go to AI and it cannot find a path to the survivors
* Tanks will spawn as late as 90% level completition (default behaviour), this means you might get them much later now (bad for BH4, but good for pretty much every other level where getting it around the middle is bad)
* The team format is ABABA (meaning the team order of who goes survivor first is swapped every map, ignoring 'valve swap')
* The config files unlocks some of the network rates for better ping
* Turn all spawnable medkits into pills (except saferoom kits)
* Disable tank suiciding if no AI path to survivors

4. Cheating and Exploits
4A. Game Techniques
Survivors:
Legal:
•Getting into any closets or rooms, as long as the infected can physically get in there.
Keep in mind getting into closets or enclosed rooms and melee spamming camping in corners every single time is not allowed.
Example - No Mercy 4, closet near elevator.
Survivors:
Illegal:
•Skipping crescendos.
◦Such as the last part of BH4, where you can go to the bottom right of the last house, going under and coming out of the bridge.
•Blood Harvest 5, camping in this area. This forces special infected to be auto spawned in plain sight of the survivors, giving the opponent literally no chance to formulate an attack.

•Teams always (every single time) melee camping in the same corner throughout the entire match.
•Fast melee exploiting. Switching weapons and melee may have been fixed, but there are other methods which may work.
•The following rules only apply when a tank has spawned:
◦No Mercy 2, the vents.
◦No Mercy 5, the vents inside the same building where you spawn, around the area of two ladders.
◦No Mercy 4, Top floor, just behind and sides of the elevator on top floor.
◦Bottom corner of stairs, in all levels.Credits to Crab.

•Excessive usage of Left 4 Dead in-game voice/vocalize commands, which disrupts gameplay for both teams.
Infected:
Legal:
•Getting on top and edges of all trees and buildings.
•BH 5, smoker dragging survivors to edge of cliff.
•Smoker dragging survivors to areas around the witch.
•If you block with an object that despawns, can be destroyed or moved by the survivors. This means, the objects must despawn, or they can be overcome by the survivors, by either jumping or shooting. If not, it is illegal.

•Map exploits:
◦Getting onto invisible/untextured objects or ledges to gain access to otherwise inaccessible areas, and sitting on these invisible ledges/terrain.
■Extremely hard to explain with just words. If a dispute is brought up regarding this, decisions on whether spots/methods used are illegal, will be decided on a case-by-case basis from a recorded demo of the match.
•Intentionally scratching the witch.
•Skywalking,pouncing through, getting on or spawning on any invisible edges/terrain/objects.
◦Some examples of these includes:
■Pouncing through any unbreakable closed doors - EG: Safe room doors, closed elevator doors etc.
■Pouncing through unbreakable solid walls or floors
•Blocking doors, windows, paths or any area with any objects that do not despawn, such as logs, ladders, forklifts, cars, etc., which renders the survivors unable to go through.
◦This means, if the objects can't be moved or despawn, the tactic is deemed illegal.
